I’ve heard in recent years of people who don’t believe in celebrating Christmas for various reasons. There are lots of arguments for this. People may say that they don’t believe in celebrating Christmas because Jesus probably wasn’t really born at this time of the year, or that we shouldn’t celebrate it because of the fact that it was mixed in with pagan celebrations many years ago. But I am not here to argue about those things.
Instead I am here to argue the case of why I think we should celebrate the holiday. Just because the world around us has turned it into a day that is all about the presents we get doesn’t mean that we have to. It’s true that Jesus probably wasn’t born on December 25th. But we do know from the Bible that He was born and that He came to redeem us. And since we don’t know the exact date of his birth it’s wonderful to a special time of the year set aside to remember and celebrate the fact that God loved us so much that He sent His only son to pay the penalty for our sins for us and give us eternal life with Him in heaven someday. God gave us the greatest gift ever! There is truly nothing better to celebrate then that.
At Thanksgivng we get to have a day set aside to thank God for all his blessing to us. At Christmas we get to have a day set aside to stop and thank him again for sending His son to us. The joy that we celebrate and remember at this season is something that can stay with us all the rest of the year long. And what better time of the year then now to tell your unbelieving friends and family about the best gift that they could possibly receive…the gift of eternal life with Jesus. And that is what gives us a reason to celebrate on Christmas day.
Whether you celebrate Christmas Day or not I hope that you will have a blessed December as we remember Jesus and His gift to us! “For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NKJV
Merry Christ-mas!~Anna
